How To Use WinSCP

As you install the software, you can choose between explorer and commander interfaces. Commander is preferred as it has 2 panels, one for remote directories and the other for local directories. The interface is thus similar to all the other FTP programs on the market.

You need to choose a file protocol and then enter port number, host name and identification details. After, you can use the tools tab to run pageant, back up configurations, restore configurations and set preferences. Different configurations are available, including changing user interface.

You can transfer files very fast. After you connect, you can just select files to transfer and press F5. The mouse and a drag and drop motion are available. Numerous operations can be performed remotely and locally but the server needs to support them, like renaming files, changing file permissions and editing files.

A big advantage of using WinSCP is that it offers enhanced security. You can easily utilize FTP clients but when the connection is insecure, it is not a good idea. This means the network is vulnerable.

If the server allows it, you can also use a Console Window.
